NTS Camp 2005

Yes, I have survived three days of intensive training. Yes, it was held over the Christmas weekend. I spent my entire Christmas doing Kendo. Do I have no life, or what?? I have learnt that when you hit a certain point during training, whatever hurts doesn't hurt anymore. I have learnt that you win when you either have nothing to lose or everything to lose. I have also learnt that when people tell you to "Have fun!", it is best to be slightly pessimisstic as well.

I hate to admit it, but yes, I did "have fun!" at three full days of training. It is by far even more intensive than NUSKK camp. Makes me wonder how I felt so weak and useless at NUSKK camp than at NTS camp. Must be the people involved. At NUSKK, you know you will never be the first one to fall out because of so-and-so reason. At SKC, if you fall out first, you are just weak. No one likes to be the first one to drop out, cos if one does, the rest will follow. What do you call it? The linch pin? Haha, nevermind.

And since the last few posts have been so bereft of pictures, and I had even resorted to putting up a comic, you shan't be disappointed this time. If you're eating, drinking, or just have a generally weak stomach, please skip the few pictures at the front.

Picture 286: Bruises received on day 1 of camp.

Just one bruise, actually. Had shiai with two people, and as I walked away to take a rest, I felt a painful tingle on my right upper arm. You know how you smack yourself, there's this lingering tingly feeling? Well, imagine that, but starting to bite into you and just won't quit tingling. I thought to myself, Shit, a bruise? So I lifted up the sleeve of my hakama and found It. It changed colour from light blue, to dark blue, to dark green, and then with reddish tinge. It was amazing how It changed colour over five hours.

Picture 287: Bruises received on day 2 of camp.

Picture 288: Closeup.

Second day, there was team shiai, so I was up against one of the strongest female players in Singapore. As we fought, she hit me in the same spot that was bruised the day before, and when we both came in for kote, she missed and her shinai jabbed me in the arm (hence bruise number 2). It didn't just like, hit and slide off. It hit and left a scratch mark of sorts.

When the match was over, I went over to Saizou, "I know who gave me the bruise yesterday le." Actually, I have no idea. It might have been the second girl, but well. I have another bruise from the second day on the outside of my right elbow. It's this big painful bit that's quite reminiscent of Lawyer's bruises. That one is LENG hit one lor. During keiko later, everyone loved hitting my arm. Four partners in a row proceeded to hit me in the exact same spot. At the end of it, I couldn't really feel much of my arm anymore.

Picture 289: Bruises received on day 3 of camp.

Today was another bad right arm day. During keiko, got hit on the second bruise very hard by one guy. My arm went numb for a while, and I had to stop keiko for a while. The poor guy was wondering what happened to me. Then he proceeded to give me the third bruise. -__-"

On to some better looking photos:

Picture 290: Saizou looks like some kind of gangster in this picture.

Picture 291: And the image is quickly shattered when she posed cutely for this photo. See the dead (tired) bodies in the background. How she gets her energy, I have no idea. Posted by Picasa

I haven't mentioned the number of suburi we did. Nvm, another story for another time. I just want to sleep now.

Impromptu outing

Had to wake up earlier than usual on Sunday morning (at the unearthly hour of 10.30am) because someone was coming over to fix my kitchen/toilet ceilings. Something about leaky, plaster, toilet unusable and other profound adult words. I can't remember why I woke up either. I think it's because my alarm started ringing, and these days I can't snooze it for two hours like I used to. So I got up, bathed and then came online.

Saw Kimchi online, and in the midst of whining to each other that we were hungry, she suddenly popped the million dollar question: "Want to go out?" So we proceeded to call the "sweaty people", and finally managed to get a bunch of them out. Met up with Kimchi, and we walked about for a long time, because the Sweaty People were taking too long to arrive.

We finally went to Ajisen Ramen and waited some more for them. In the end we ordered first, cos they were stuck at the entrance of the carpark. Finally they arrived, and we had a good time chatting about that day's training. It seems like after joining Kendo, my whole world becomes just that. I go out with people from Kendo, I feel most at home with Kendo people, hell, I even start chatting about Kendo to other people.

Anyway, we all went to watch movie. Enginger and his sisters watched Hairy Porter, while LENG, Saizou, Kimchi and I watched Perhaps Love. Like Darren who aptly put it, came out of the movie wondering, wtf? At least it wasn't as bad as 2046, where I completely caught no ball. But I'd like to watch Perhaps Love again (and no, it's not for Takeshi however-you-spell-it). There was this Korean guy who popped up at really random intervals of the show. I thought he was like, Puck in Midsummer's Night Dream, but he was absent most of the time. Really weird. Did they put him in just for eye candy? But the soundtrack's good. Jacky Cheung sure can sing still.

Ah, I forgot to mention that I bought two new shirts. It's the end of the year! I can indulge a little! Then this morning I got an sms from my mother, "I just got 50% discount coupons from U2." That woke up me right away, cos I bought the shirts from U2 as well. -_- Talk about timing, man. Anyone wants to go shopping with me on Wednesday?

We all met up again after the movie, and had Mos Burger for dinner. Haha there were two funny quotes of the day:

1/ At Bravissimo (ice cream counter), and Lawyer asked LENG why she doesn't want ice cream. LENG replied, "I'm going StarBucks for coffee..." Lawyer says, "StarBucks? Boring person." And then stalked away.

2/ After movie, we were trying to decide where to eat. So someone said, "Fast food?" Lawyer: "No! I don't want fast food..." Then I said, "How about Mos Burger?" And the sister covered her mouth, looked at Lawyer from the corner of her eyes and said, "OKAY!" I tell you, we couldn't stop laughing at the expression on Lawyer's face.

All in all, a really nice day. Here's how much I spent: $14 (Ajisen) + $6.35 (Coffee treat for Kimchi) + $59 (U2) + $9.50 (Movie) + $6.70 (Mos) + $3.20 (ice cream).

Okay, just kill me now. I don't want to total it up.

Kendo Camp 2005

Sorry, no pictures this time. Cos my camera ran out of batt (forgot to charge the batteries), and I was too lazy to take any pictures. Camp isn't so exciting when there are people around whom you are not close to. Last year was more fun, cos I was close to most of the people. This year, the rooms are so far apart, and there's just something missing. I don't know what, and I'm too tired to come up with a long essay about just exactly what it is.

I'm achey. I'm sleepy. I have tons of stuff to read through online. I have bruises on the weirdest places, like the little and fourth finger of my LEFT hand. My right foot hurts. My left forearm hurts. And I'm still contemplating going for training on Sunday, because I really wanna sleep innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Survived all the training sessions, not really well, but hey, didn't take off men unneccessarily. Food was good. And I'm just randomly putting points down because I don't know what else to say le.

So tell me

So tell me people, all of those who know me in person (not virtually), what was your first impression of me? I was talking to someone last night and I was slightly surprised, although it wasn't the first time I've heard it. So please leave comments? That means you, Boon, Darren, Twinny, MadMat, Godspeed, etc. Heck, as long as you know me in real life, just tell me. Alternatively, you can choose to MSN me.

Just take it that I'm nutty because of exams, and I need to "find myself" in the midst of losing myself in my papers.

little quiz/survey thing

Because I'm still in a crappy mood, and I'm doing this before I go to sleep.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR, WHAT'S THE FIRST THING YOU LOOK AT?
My face in general. What else should I look at?

HOW MUCH CASH DO YOU HAVE ON YOU?
Enough.

WHAT'S A WORD THAT RHYMES WITH "TEST"?
Rest.

FAVORITE PLANT?
Cactus. No, I'm just kidding.

WHO IS THE 4TH PERSON ON YOUR MISSED CALL LIST ON YOUR CELL PHONE?
My stepmom, on 29 October at 6.19pm.

WHAT IS YOUR MAIN RING TONE ON YOUR PHONE?
Currently it's some midi I composed for my Science of Music module two sems ago. At home, it is Final Fantasy something's theme song. Or when I'm studying and don't want loud noises, it's just a series of sharp beeps. And I'm not really answering the question.

WHAT SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING?
Racer back. BECAUSE I CAN.

DO YOU "LABEL" YOURSELF?
No. Stupid question.

NAME THE BRAND OF YOUR SHOES YOU'RE CURRENTLY WEARING?
Not wearing any shoes now. My Bata sandals got fixed, so it's Bata. Last few days out, I've been wearing my Nike shoes. Then today I wore Fox slippers. Oh wow, all branded.

BRIGHT OR DARK ROOM?
Bright room to do work in, dark room to sleep in.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING AT MIDNIGHT LAST NIGHT?
Online, not studying.

WHAT WAS YOUR LAST TEXT MESSAGE YOU RECEIVED ON YOUR CELL?
"Yup..Plus e summary 4 ma3220..Thanks so much! I'll juz call ya when i get my ass down 2 skool tmr n see how la.." -from my MA3220 tutorial mate.

DO YOU EVER CLICK ON "POP UPS" OR BANNERS?
Only by accident.

WHAT'S A SAYING THAT YOU SAY A LOT?
I don't really want to rack my brain right now.

WHO TOLD YOU THEY LOVED YOU LAST?
I don't recall.

LAST FURRY THING YOU TOUCHED?
My squashy pillow.

HOW MANY DRUGS HAVE YOU DONE IN THE PAST THREE DAYS?
No clue, why don't you tell me?

HOW MANY ROLLS OF FILM DO YOU NEED TO GET DEVELOPED?
In this modern age of technology, I don't use film cameras anymore. So there.

FAVORITE AGE YOU HAVE BEEN SO FAR?
Seventeen.

YOUR WORST ENEMY?
I could say something really intellectual like, "Myself, because I am my worst enemy," or I could just put down someone's name. But I don't feel like doing either, because both ways, not really an answer.

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT DESKTOP PICTURE?
A background I made using photoshop, with some brushes of forgotten origin.

WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU SAID TO SOMEONE?
"Bye."

IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN A MILLION BUCKS OR TO BE ABLE TO CHANGE A MAJOR REGRET?
Regret. But then again my life wouldn't be the way it is now, would it? Aiyah, all these questions that however you answer, it just seems so damn lame.

DO YOU LIKE SOMEONE?
Another trick question.

THE LAST SONG YOU LISTENED TO?
Currently listening to Seasons of Love from the musical RENT. Who wants to watch it with me?

This is possibly one of the most silly surveys I've done in a while. But I need to type before I go crazy. So there you go.

Oh yeah, before I forget, FENDY!!! OI! Oi OI!!

So completely random

If my tracker is accurate, then why would anyone want to search for http://animatedstar.blogspot.com via Google? Or things like nus kendo singapore blog define (where 'Define Your Life' is the title of my blog)? People confuse me.

Just in case Godspeed says that I don't update again, but I guess he wouldn't bother me because he's probably busy with his own exams these few weeks. Eh, grading in November, take care of your injury and come for grading!

In about two weeks, I hope that I can get the letter announcing my acceptance into the National Institute of E********. People have been asking me why I applied so early, and honestly, I don't know why either. People on Teaching Awards, Teaching Scholarships, have said to me, "You are signing your life away!" Aww, I wish I had their TA/TS's. At least I don't need to pay back my mother's CPF upon graduation. And I have spending money without resorting to giving tuition to five different kids. But ah well, we shall see next June.

You know the list of Proofs I listed a couple of entries down? I realised that I have a copy of it lying somewhere, and that I have actually seen it a few months ago. Talk about having so much online junk that you don't even know what you have.

I believe this blog is due for an image overhaul pretty soon. Perhaps one day when I get tired of studying. Do you know what's the most taxing part? It's the editing of the html. I know close to nothing about programming, and all I've done is plagarised and tweaked the html until I am somewhat satisfied with the outcome.

A good parting one-liner might be: "I need a life." However, looking back on the past few weekends, I realise that, hey, I DO have a life, just that when I'm sitting down at home, alone, on a weekday afternoon, with my damp hair turning frizzy, I feel like I have no life.

I need to start preparing to go out soon.

Birthday party on 22nd Oct

I attended the birthday party of a secondary school classmate on Saturday night. Like the party of another secondary school classmate which I attended, there was a theme. Birthday girl decided that the girls should all wear something flowery, while the guys can either follow the girls' 'dress code', or wear something stripy. Needless to say, as with the other one, only the people from my sec sch turned up dressed in accordance with the dress code. Don't say I didn't have flowers ah; look carefully at the bottom left corner of my shirt! Flower, okay!

So, one of the girls decided to surprise the birthday girl by having the girls to pin a flower in our hair. She bought a couple of stalks of orchids, which we went to one corner to quietly pin in our hair. See, if one person wears it, it may seem rather weird, but when everyone wears it... You aren't so unique after all. So that's why I dared to pin that flower in my hair, cos everyone else was doing it too.

I have a lot of pictures from that night, because I went trigger-happy. My camera had full batt, and everyone seemed to want to take lots of pictures, so I snapped away. I actually have 64 pictures. -_- That's the most I've ever taken at a birthday party. I thoroughly enjoyed myself though, perhaps because of the company, perhaps because these people have seen me in my nerd years. In fact, there are a couple of guys in the photos below who have known me for a decade. Yes, a whole decade, ladies and gentlemen... It still amazes me sometimes. Though I'm not close to them, but we can still get along whenever we meet, which is pretty damn good to me.

I do hope we can all get together again in the future, perhaps this time for wedding dinners.

Picture 271: Banban and Huiping. Banban kept posing whenever she saw a camera, so I have no candid shots of her; they are all posed, cos she's always ready!!!

Picture 272: Banban and me! Self-taken. There were two guys standing there, and they were quite amused that I could get such good shots. They said that I must have had a lot of practice taking pictures of myself.

Picture 273: My very wonderful secondary school good friend. Isn't she cute?! And she has no boyfriend yet, so... *winks*

Picture 274: One of my favourite pictures. =D

Picture 275: Birthday girl and me.

Picture 276: Flower power!

Picture 277: Freaky picture. Those two guys are the ones who were amused by my ability to take pictures of myself without any help. (Actually, I took this picture on the sly. I just wanted a picture of the two guys.)

Picture 278: That little girl in the pink dress is DAMN CUTE. I swear, she looks like a little Japanese kid. Of course, again I took this picture on the sly.

Picture 279: The girls of XMS 2E1'98. We all have flowers in our hair, just for the birthday girl!

Picture 280: The guys of XMS 4E1'00. I'm starting to forget who was in my class or not. But we all know each other. That's how small my sec sch is.

Picture 281: Don't worry, no one got burnt by the sparklers.

Picture 282: When I said I was trigger-happy, I really meant it. This is why you are looking at a picture which has fingers pointing at the banana in the chocolate cake (it was banana chocolate cake). The person who can guess which finger is mine will... uh... get it right.

Picture 283: Giving the birthday girl her present. Banban posing, AGAIN! I didn't realise she was there until the flash went off (was dark larh).

Picture 284: Me and the birthday girl with sparklers. Argh, hers went out. I just noticed it too. We were like, "Quick!! Go take picture!! Sparkler going to burn out!" So it was a mad rush of taking the sparklers, quickly taking pictures, and then passing it on to the next person.

Genting Trip (Part II) + Bruise

Here are some long overdue pictures from the Genting Trip, Day Two. My stepmom's younger brother came up with his wife and daughter. We spent a day walking about some place in Genting. I cannot recall the name now. Bah, all these foreign names, all so... foreign. Oh, I think I didn't mention that I had some kind of fried chicken called MerryBrown on the first day for dinner. It's like a pirated version of KFC. Apparently it never really hit off with Singaporeans, unlike KFC.

So anyway, my little cousin (by marriage) is a good little girl, mostly. Doesn't cry when mother leaves her for a long time (when the adults went to the casino to gamble). Could walk around with her for two or three hours and she'll behave. Not like my sister who insisted on being carried. What was GodSpeed's nick for her... ah, yes. Little midget. Thanks ah.

Picture 265: Melody and Sum Ying (I think that's how you spell her name...) My father insists that both of them look alike.

Picture 266: The kids... Bah, Melody isn't looking at the camera. So hard to keep them looking in one direction.

Picture 267: Take two. Argh. Now little Sum Ying isn't looking at the camera. Look at those shifty eyes!

Picture 268: Me at a merry-go-round. Okay, I know it's somewhat loser-ish to wear the NUSKK t-shirt overseas. -_-

That's about it for the Genting Trip. Next entry will have pictures from two birthday parties I went to in the last week. I need more than seven days a week to fit everything in. )=

Here are two pictures of a bruise courtesy of Twinny. Don't worry, it's somewhat fun to hear people gasp when they see it, though the pain is a bit on the =\ side, especially on the second day. Like I said, rather Twinny than anyone else.

Picture 269: Bruise from Twinny. She was going for a do and somehow missed it really really badly. So many people have asked me, "How do you get a bruise on the underside of your arm? So weird!" This was day three.

Picture 270: The same bruise, taken in good light, day six. Posted by Picasa

Filler

Because Godspeed complained that he does not want to see any more pictures of my birthday presents. (Jealous!) But I've been too lazy to update too. I got totally and completely PWNED by my MA3249 Geometry: From Ancient To Modern lecturer. Felt so cheated by that question. When I get back my paper, I will post up the question and solution like the absolute geek I am. I even started chatting to one of my tutees about Euclid and Gauss. Somebody shoot me.

This appeared in my tracker:
13 Oct, Thu, 07:23:49 MSN Search: pictures of animated girls feet

=\ (I don't want to know.)

The last weird one was this:
18 Sep, Sun, 03:08:44 MSN Search: animated pictures of people mouths

And the first weird one that appeared was:
04 Sep, Sun, 07:27:10 MSN Search: animated old ladies

ODE test tmr! Or today, if you want to be picky. Time to whack second order differential equations.

21st Birthday Presents

So I reached the mark a few days ago. Nothing spectacular, a simple dinner with two good pals, and then went home. Considering it was the week of midterms, I guess people weren't really in any kind of celebratory mood. In fact, there was a class outing on Friday, but turn-out was at a low this time round (only 8 people).

But anyway, here are the pictures of the presents I got this year:

Picture 256: A pretty box. And in the pretty box is a...

Picture 257: ...Necklace from Citigems. From my stepmom. It's mother-of-pearl, according to the sales guy. Took me a long time to finally settle on this piece.

Picture 258: Bracelet from Dream Diamonds. Uh, I don't know where that is. From my mother. Actually, if you look closely, you'd realise that it is broken. Yes, it broke a day after I got it. I was wearing it and then it just slipped from my wrist. It isn't my fault, I swear. Anyway, it's being repaired.

Picture 259: A sunflower from my Piggy Fren! It is the nicest bouquet I've ever received. Firstly, there are OTHER decorations other than baby's breath! Look at the little ball-like things. Look at the little fern-like leaves. All 100% natural.

Picture 260: Now, what could possibly be inside this sweet box?

Picture 261: A t-shirt! From Huiping and Jaslyn, my two secondary school friends. I've known them since I was 14! Okay, that's about 7 years, but well. I still have a pen that they gave me all the way in sec2. It's a Pilot G-2, I think. I nearly lost it a while back, and I was so upset. It's not the pen... it's the fact that I've had it for so long.

Picture 262: Creative headphones! Courtesy of Enginger. It's just headphones, and stop telling me that there are so many better brands out there. I don't give a damn about branded goods, okay?

Picture 263: Now, what could this possibly be?

Picture 264: The biggest ass present I have ever received. I introduce the Creative Zen, from the good people of NUSKK and VJC 01S16. However, I don't know exactly who are the ones who contributed, cos Enginger orchestrated the whole thing (actually I knew he got me this a whole month before my birthday; he's lousy at surprises that way). So unfortunately, I don't know exactly who are the people who contributed to this gift, so if I have not thanked you personally... please blame Enginger. Thanks. X= Posted by Picasa

And please, for the love of all that's good and pure, DO NOT TELL ME THAT MY ZEN IS A LOUSY PIECE OF SHIT because I will beat you up. I'm sick of people telling me that my Zen is ugly, that the Ipod looks so much better, that the Nano pwns my Zen. Well, I don't care. Keep your Apple comments to yourself, because I'd rather live in the delusion that my Zen is the best than to have you spoil my birthday present.

(The threat about beating you up... I mean it. And you know I can.)

Genting Trip (Part I)

Went for a short holiday over the midterm break weekend to Genting. My second time out of the country in a year! It was cold, but I didn't freeze. So cold that I could see my breath! How exhilarating... the last time I saw my breath come out of my mouth as vapour was nine years ago.

Since we departed on Mid-autumn's Day, we celebrated it the night before. Had my fill of mooncakes and oolong tea. Lit my lanterns too! In the past few years, I used to buy one paper lantern, a box of candles, light it up, switch off the kitchen lights and let it burn. Really no life, but well, that's the best I could get. So this year, celebrating it with my other family was quite enjoyable.

Picture 240: Celebrating Mid-Autumn's Festival. The grapes are there to provide some variety (and also cos that was the only thing my sister ate). On the top right, you see the yellowish thing? Durian snow skin mooncake. I love snow skin mooncakes, esp when it contains only the paste (no yolk, please!). It was DELICIOUS. Kindly contributed by the neighbour. At the bottom left, there's this plate of black things that look like shit, smell like shit, and - according to my brother - tastes like shit. I was too humji to try. Then again, why would you want to eat something that resembles shit in every way?!

Picture 241: My beloved sister, finally learns how to pose for pictures. We tell her, "Melody! Chak chak!" And she'll gamely pose. Though only when she feels like it. Don't you think this is just so damn cute?

Picture 242: The lanterns I lit.

Picture 243: The coach we were in. Got a pretty good driver, hardly any of the sudden jerks. And he got us to the foot of Genting in exactly six hours!

Picture 244: On the M'sian highway. There are more scenery pics, but I shan't bore you.

Picture 245: Leaving the cable car station. My first time in a cable car!

Picture 246: Stepmom and Melody. Another one of those pictures where Melody actually sat still long enough to get a nice picture. Check out her funky pants.

Picture 248: Ahh... How sweet.

Picture 249: Approaching the top of the hill. I tell people that it was damn cold and damn misty. Now I have pictorial evidence.

Picture 250: My brother and I. Please ignore the large pimple on my left cheek. Also, please ignore the really funny expression on my brother's face. He complained that I chopped off the top of his head, but well, this is what happens when you are taller than your sister.

Picture 251: See the mist behind me? It was THAT COLD. I felt like I was in a huge freezer, and I kept waiting for the wind to blow away the clouds.

Picture 252: Father and stepmom.

Picture 253: Another one of those brother-sister shots. At least he's smiling properly in this one.

Picture 254: See??? It's like walking among clouds.

Picture 255: Alright, that's enough for tonight. Posted by Picasa
